Sony Xperia 2 leaks out before Xperia 1 launch

The Sony Xperia 1 is expected to launch next month, but before it hits shelves, the first details on its successor have leaked out.

New renders that reportedly show the Sony Xperia 2 have made their way online. These are not official images from Sony, but are renders based on factory CAD drawings that’ve been shared by OnLeaks and CashKaro. While the overall design of this Xperia 2 looks similar to the Xperia 1, there are a few changes to be aware of.

First up, Sony appears to be using a triple rear camera setup on the Xperia 2 like it did on the Xperia 1, but the trio of snappers has moved from the center of the phone’s back to the left side. Sony will also reportedly shrink the Xperia 2’s screen to 6.1 inches, down from the 6.5-inch panel on the Xperia 1. This Xperia 2’s dimensions are said to be 158 x 68.3 x 8.3mm, while the Xperia 1 is 167 x 72 x 8.2mm.

Rumors also say that the Xperia 2 will have a Snapdragon 855 processor paired with 6GB of RAM, which is the same configuration as the Xperia 1. Another change rumored to be coming to the Xperia 2 is a smaller 3000mAh battery, down from the 3300mAh battery in the Xperia 1.

Considering that this Xperia 2 has the same processor and RAM as the Xperia 1, a similar design, and a smaller screen and battery, it’s possible that this isn’t a successor to the Xperia 1 but instead a smaller and lower-cost version of the Xperia 1 flagship. It’s unclear when this Xperia 2 might launch, so stay tuned for more as we get it.
