Samsung Galaxy Buds+ may get bigger battery but lack active noise cancellation


The Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip have been dominating the Samsung rumor mill lately, but the company has some other new devices on the way, too, like the Galaxy Buds+. Today some new info on those upcoming truly wireless earbuds has leaked.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds+ are expected to have bigger batteries than their predecessor. According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Buds+ battery will measure in at 85mAh, up from the 58mAh battery in the original Galaxy Buds (shown above). Bigger batteries were hinted at by the Galaxy Buds+’s FCC filing that we spotted last month.

This battery increase will reportedly allow the earbuds to last up to 12 hours on a single charge when combined with the charging case.

Today’s report also claims that the Galaxy Buds+ will have four microphones, double the number of the Galaxy Buds. That should help to improve the call quality of Samsung’s new ‘buds.

Finally, it’s said that Samsung will not be adding active noise cancellation to the Galaxy Buds+. That’s one of the major new features of the AirPods Pro that launched last year, and so some folks may have been hoping that Samsung would add active noise cancellation to its next pair of Galaxy Buds to compete with Apple. Unfortunately, that doesn’t sound like it’ll be the case.

One of the most important features of truly wireless earbuds is battery life. Since you can’t just plug them into your phone like wired headphones, wireless earbuds are no good  to you if they’re dead. That’s why it’s nice to hear that Samsung might be beefing up the battery life on its upcoming Galaxy Buds+. Some folks will surely be disappointed in the new ‘buds if there’s no active noise cancellation, though.

Samsung is hosting a Galaxy Unpacked event on February 11th. It’s expected that the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip will be announced there, and it’s possible that the Galaxy Buds+ will debut at that time, too.
