Huawei P40 renders show pill-shaped hole-punch and triple rear camera setup

Renders of the Huawei P40 first leaked out last month, but the design of the phone was mostly obscured in those images. Now the Huawei P40 has surfaced again in a much clearer render.

The newest image of the Huawei P40 shows off the front and back of the upcoming flagship as well as its bottom and one of the sides. According to the renders shared by 91mobiles, the front of the phone is home to a flat display that could measures 6.1 or 6.2 inches, and there’s a pill-shaped hole-punch that appears to have two cameras inside of it.

Around back there’s a rectangular camera bump with three cameras, a flash, and Leica branding. The side of the phone is home to volume and power buttons, and the bottom has a speaker grille and USB-C port. There’s no visible headphone jack on the device.

It’s also rumored that a Huawei P40 Pro is in the works. There aren’t any new renders of that device today, but rumors say it could have a quad rear camera setup with a 64MP main sensor, 20MP ultra-wide lens, a 12MP telephoto cam with 10x optical zoom, a macro lens, and a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor. Both the P40 and P40 Pro are expected to include a Kirin 990 processor.

Last year’s Huawei P30 had a waterdrop notch with a single front camera, so this pill-shaped hole-punch with dual selfie cams on the Huawei P40 is an upgrade. Much of the P40’s spec list is still up in the air, but because last year’s model included features like an OLED screen with in-display fingerprint sensor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage, we can likely expect at least those features in the upcoming P40.

Huawei hasn’t said when it might announce the P40. The Huawei P30 was introduced at the end of March last year, so a P40 reveal could still be a couple months away. Stay tuned.
